Samarium cobalt magnets are binary alloy magnetic materials based on 1:5 and 2:17 SmCo crystal structures. SmCo5 and Sm2Co17 magnets are rare earth magnets as well as neodymium magnets. The three magnet types are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations, respectively. In addition to the basic constituent elements samarium and cobalt, samarium cobalt magnets also use other substitution and/or doping elements such as praseodymium, gadolinium, iron, copper and zirconium to control their microstructure and performance. Due to high thermal stability, high energy and demagnetization resistance, they are widely applied in high speed motors, microwave devices, aerospace electronics, defense, oil and gas, etc.
